Dickson explores sales of Reno-Tahoe homes to Chinese

Dickson Realty wants to discover if there’s a market for luxury homes in the Reno-Tahoe market among wealthy Chinese.

After a week in Beijing, Harvey Fennell, one of Dickson’s brokers and owners, says the question remains open — but there’s enough interest that Dickson will continue its efforts to develop the market.

“Time to Snowshoe!” Next Full Moon – MARCH 19

I had the opportunity to participate in and evening Snowshoe trip adventure on the last full moon. It was a clear night and a real magical experience. It is true what they say, “God paints the best masterpieces.” We are so fortunate to have the lake in our backyard and here is your Snowshoe opportunity!

Take a moment and Google “Chickadee Ridge, Tahoe.” It is at the top of Mt. Rose Highway. My recommendation is to park on the south side of the highway. If you don’t have your own set of snowshoes, my guess is your neighbor probably does (not an excuse!) A fanny pack is probably all you will need for hydration and a snack. Soda Springs Traffic Jam/Upcoming Events

It was reported in a January, 1940, issue of the Sierra Sun that there were 5,000 automobiles parked along the 3 mile stretch of Highway 40 between Soda Springs and Donner Summit for the opening of Sugar Bowl. Traffic control was handled by 2, yes 2!, highway patrolmen who were kept busy for 10 hours convoying single lines of traffic over the 3 mile section of road. I am never going to complain about the congestion again!

Feb 26 at Sugar Bowl: Jam for the Cure- Sugar Bowl joins with Boarding for Breast Cancer and the HERA Foundation. There will be a rail jam in the Switching Yard Terrain Park. Call Sugar Bowl for info 530-426-9000.

Keeping Your Home Safe This Winter

Once you’ve winterized your home it’s time to curl up by the fire and enjoy the snow outside, right? Almost. There are still some important safety tips to follow to keep you and your home safe throughout the colder months.

The Home Safety Council urges homeowners to protect themselves against house fires by using portable space heaters safely and properly using and maintaining fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. Keep flammables away from both, ensure that they are in clean and good working condition, and never leave them unattended. Read more about fire safety here.

Snow safety is important as well. Storms in Truckee-Lake Tahoe can drop feet of snow at a time. Ensure your pantry is stocked and you have plenty of fresh drinking water in case it takes more than a few hours for snow to be cleared. Sometimes snow and ice can affect power lines and cause power bumps or loss. Keep candles and flashlights handy, along with board games and cards, to keep your family in the light and entertained until power is restored. Oh, and remember to keep lots of cozy blankets handy too.

As you shovel snow around your home be sure to knock loose any large accumulations along the edge of your roof as well as large icicles which may drop and cause hazardous conditions. Carefully sweep snow away from propane and gas tanks and nozzles to prevent accidental damage and gas leaks. And last, be sure to salt or sand walkways to prevent ice accumulation and slippery conditions.

Dickson Realty Opens New Somersett Office

As the market improves, Dickson Realty, Northern Nevada’s premier real estate company, will extend their range of services to the master-planned community of Somersett beginning Sept. 1, 2010.

“This is a remarkably positive sign for our community that new home development is occurring in northern Nevada,” said Nancy Fennell, CEO of Dickson Realty. “There are very few real estate firms that are expanding in these times anywhere in the nation, and it’s a testament to our relationships and experience in the market that we are able to make that happen in Reno, and specifically, in Somersett.”
